Deborah Belcourt

Deb is a builder of businesses, trusted advisor to senior leaders and communications strategist with more than 30 years of experience spanning agency, client and consulting environments.
As Vice-President, Communications here at the agency, Deb leads the continued development of the agency’s Communications practice, bringing together corporate communications, public relations, reputation, media relations, executive visibility, thought leadership, media training and strategic counsel. Her mandate extends beyond building a successful practice in its own right. She works across Experiential, Brand & Digital, Creative and Strategy to create more connected solutions, deepen client relationships and help unlock new opportunities across the agency.
Deb spent the first 15 years of her career in agency before moving client side for a decade, including serving as Vice President, Communications at Canwest, where she oversaw internal and external communications for Global Television and 18 specialty channels including HGTV, Food Network and History. She later returned to agency leadership and helped grow the business by 300% before launching her own performance advisory practice.
For the past eight years, Deb has advised more than 20 agencies, businesses and leadership teams on growth, evolution, sales, communications and team development. That experience reinforced a belief that closely aligns with the future of 7 Communications: the strongest independent agencies should not be defined by a single discipline. They should bring together the right mix of expertise to solve more of a client’s business, compete confidently with larger organizations and create greater value from every relationship.
Over the course of her career, Deb has developed strategies and campaigns for brands including Unilever, Microsoft, L’Oréal, Mazda, Pfizer, RBC, Metro, Rexall, Carter’s OshKosh, Perrier and San Pellegrino.
Known for connecting big-picture business objectives with practical action, Deb combines strategic judgment, commercial instinct and a deep understanding of how influence is built. She is equally comfortable advising a senior executive, shaping a communications strategy, developing a team or pitching the next opportunity.
An agency person through and through, Deb joined 7 Communications because she saw the opportunity to help build something bigger: an independent agency with the talent, maturity and ambition to bring Experiential, Brand & Digital, Communications, Creative and Strategy together in increasingly powerful ways for its clients.
Off the clock, Deb can usually be found golfing, playing racket sports, reading a great book or working on material for her next stand-up set. Spend enough time with her and there is always a chance you become part of it.
